My artistic approach
Clay fascinates me. At the whim of the embrace or the caress of the hands, it adopts the curve that is suggested to it. Both an art and a science, ceramics offers me infinite possibilities of creation. Firing in an electric kiln encourages me to experiment with different shapes, textures and glazes. Firing in a wood-fired kiln, more capricious and unpredictable, allows the pieces to express their experience. The dark and nuanced tones of the walls bear witness to a long stay at very high temperature but also to the variation in the oxygen level which plays an important role in this process. The deposit of ashes and the embrace of the flames also leave their mark. Then, improbable links are created. Beach wood marries bowls with undulations and shades of sand. Fine pieces of porcelain and rough stoneware plates become accomplices to compose landscapes. Ferns soaked in glaze embellish the bottom of a plate. And some of my pots humbly accompany the floral delicacy of ikebana or harmonize with the meticulous design of a bonsai.
My sources of inspiration
Nature
For the creative energy it instills in me. Your attentive gaze on my pieces will spot the shifting imprint of a leaf in the wind, the ripples of a pebble thrown into a pond, the cracking of thirsty soil or the furrows engraved by valiant insects on their plant canvas.
Japanese art
For the spontaneity of the gesture, the pure lines and the harmonious forms, as well as for the respect and modesty greatly valued in this culture.
And the skillful hands of my parents
To whom I pay homage. Ingenious artisans of everyday life, they knew so well how to sow beauty and goodness around them.
